“Mr. Licht, any last words?”
“… What is this place?”
Licht glared at the executioner with eyes full of hatred.
The executioner remained unfazed. It seemed that he had long gotten used to this sort of thing as a part of his occupation.
Rather, the man smiled at Licht with a look of amusement.
“Obviously, this is an execution site. After I stab you through the heart, I’ll push you off this cliff. A nice and clean death, don’t you think?”
“You brute.”
“A brute? I’ll take that as a compliment. If you’d like, I can change your itinerary to one that’ll have you suffering so much you’ll be begging for death. Choose your words wisely.”
The executioner makes a show of looking over his torture devices.
The man would hold true to his word.
If Licht was not handcuffed, he was sure he could have fought back in some way.
But of course, the executioner was not a man who would make such a stupid mistake.
“Well, I do feel a bit sorry for you. But in the end you only have your own luck— Looks like our time is up.”
Pan~~ A sound of unclear origin rang throughout the execution grounds.
Judging by the man’s reaction, this was the signal for the execution to be carried out.
Before he could prepare his mind, Licht was going to be executed.
“To be honest, I never thought an S-rank adventurer would meet his end like this. You really never know what life has in store… Ah, maybe you won’t actually die from this? Want to make a bet on it?”
“Just get it over with.”
Is that so— the executioner muttered to himself.
“Bye!”

It hurt.
That was all Licht could think about.
The executioner’s actions were not particularly elegant nor particularly savage. It could be said that he professionally drove the blade through Licht’s heart.
Although this was already a sufficiently fatal injury, a kick to the back was also performed for insurance.
Like this, the powerless Licht tumbled off the cliff.
It was a performance that in some ways was beautiful.
“Ah, I’ve finally finished my work for the day. It was a pretty busy day, huh.”
The executioner wiped off the blood from his blade and made preparations to return home, feeling accomplished.
His head was already empty of any thoughts regarding the adventurer named Licht.
And so, he neglected to perform the usual duty of confirming the death of the executed.
Thus,
The skill «Resurrection» will be activated.
Neglecting to properly confirm his death.
Who could have known that this would be the executioner’s, and humanity’s biggest mistake?
